The clip sees the Redditor battling the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, a boss with erratic movement that ensures its attack pattern is less clear than it initially seems. One of its most effective moves is a grab attack, as if it lands the grab, players will usually die unless they have a huge health bar. Unfortunately, despite the boss being a few hits away from death, it manages to grab Western-Age-6389. However, this is where a message ends up saving the day.
Instead of finding some kind of miraculous note on the ground that helps them escape the grab, the Redditor ends up getting a notification that their own message had been appraised. When this notification happens, helpful players will get a large chunk of their health restored, allowing them to keep fighting for longer without stopping to access to a Site of Grace. In the case of the Redditor, the health boost was perfectly timed. When watching their health drop as the Tree Spirit burns them, all hope seems lost, but the Redditor’s HP suddenly refills enough to tank the damage.
With a Flask of Crimson Tears remaining and a good bit of health back, the Redditor is free to continue the fight. While players do not see them beat the boss after this incredible moment, the brief clip is worth a watch regardless. Alongside over 2,000 upvotes, players shared that the health restore from message appraisals has saved them a few times. Others said that features like this are why they adore FromSoftware games, while some began talking about how much they dislike fighting the Tree Spirits.
