Most players would probably fight Margit, the Fell Omen as the first major boss in Elden Ring. Margit is no pushover despite seemingly being the first boss encounter in the game, but users can take advantage of an NPC summon as well as Spirit Ashes to help with the fight. Following this battle, players get access to Stormveil Castle, the first legacy dungeon in Elden Ring. However, one player now points to an interesting detail about Margit that may come as a surprise to some gamers.

A Reddit user named kuloredkaos has shared an image that confirms that Margit is an optional boss in Elden Ring. The page appears to be from an Elden Ring online guide that introduces Margit and explains how gamers can find him. Kuloredkaos appears shocked to hear this news and probably makes this post to share their reaction, but they are met with more surprising information on the amount of optional content present in Elden Ring.
According to the comments, the boss fight against Godrick the Grafted and the entire level of Stormveil Castle are optional as players only need to kill two shardbearers to progress through Elden Ring’s main quest. This means that the iconic battle against Starscourge Radahn is also optional, but gamers will be missing out on a massive chunk of content by skipping these fights.
Many of these bosses are tied to Elden Ring’s legacy dungeon, so users will be missing out on sprawling levels filled with secrets and shortcuts. Some even unlock other massive secret areas that are otherwise inaccessible. Furthermore, users will likely be under-leveled by the time they reach the second half of Elden Ring, so they may run into problems against the more difficult bosses present in these late-game sections.
As Elden Ring has been out for almost a year, Margit and Stormveil Castle being skippable may be known to users who have finished the game or have spent a considerable amount of time looking up information on it. However, Elden Ring continues to sell well, so some of the newer players may be shocked to hear that so much content in the game is optional.
Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
