Allegedly posted to the official Driveclub Twitter account, gamers were provided with the phrase “Mark your Calendars” followed by the date April 9, 2014. As is customary in occurrences of tweets that are released too early, the tweet in question was promptly removed. Unsurprisingly, this has lead to speculation that this will be the release date of Evolution Studios’ upcoming racing title.

While the tweet was only online for a very short time before being taken down, a user by the name of 100mph on the PlayStation Nation forums managed to capture a screenshot of it, as seen below.

Despite the fact that there is always a chance that the tweet is fabricated, this is not the first time that information posted online has lead to premature announcements — nor will it be the last. As such, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until a formal statement is released by Evolution Studios or Sony. For many though, the mere chance that this is real is enough to jump-start the excitement for Driveclub that may have been lying dormant for the past few months.

If the game’s trailers are any indication, this excitement is very much founded. Driveclub was one of the first titles that really grabbed hold of the would-be PS4 community, especially after the announcement that it would be released in some extent as a part of PlayStation Plus. With both the Xbox One and PS4 vying for exclusive titles to draw in gamers, this could very well be the exclusive that Sony has been waiting for. Keep your eyes peeled though, because if there is any truth to the removed tweet, gamers should expect to hear from Evolution Studios in the near future.

Do you think that this alleged tweet is in fact the release date of Driveclub? If so, will the anticipation that the game received prior to the PS4’s launch stay relevant until April?

Driveclub is rumored to speed onto the PlayStation 4 on April 9, 2014.
